Skills

• Perform venipuncture and blood collection according to physician orders and hospital protocols
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment adhering to infection control guidelines
• Monitor and replenish phlebotomy supplies
• Ensure timely sample collection across all hospital areas, prioritizing critical care units
• Ensure correct patient identification and accurate sample labeling
• Dispose of biomedical waste and sharps according to hospital policies
• Handle pediatric, geriatric, and critical-care patients professionally
• Document all sample rejections and corrective actions
• Participate in audits such as ISO 15189 and PHHC
• Independently manage assigned blood collection points
• Provide training and orientation to new staff
• Manage difficult collections and minimize repeat sampling
• Ensure proper use of PPE and safe handling of sharps
• Report incidents, needle-stick injuries, or adverse events promptly
• Coordinate with laboratory sections for timely sample delivery
• Manage phlebotomy rosters and ensure adequate coverage
• Support emergency and stat sample collection services
• Maintain records and statistics, monitor KPIs, and implement improvement measures

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Collect blood samples accurately and efficiently from patients
• Adhere strictly to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for phlebotomy
• Maintain a sterile and safe working environment for patients and staff
• Manage inventory of phlebotomy supplies and request replenishment as needed
• Ensure all collected samples are correctly identified and labeled before dispatch
• Dispose of biohazardous waste and sharps in compliance with safety regulations
• Provide compassionate and professional care to all patient demographics
• Document any issues encountered during sample collection, including reasons for rejection
• Contribute to quality assurance by participating in internal and external audits
• Oversee the smooth operation of designated blood collection sites
• Train and mentor new phlebotomy staff on best practices and procedures
• Handle challenging blood draws with expertise and minimize the need for re-collection
• Utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) correctly and practice safe sharps handling
• Report any adverse events or occupational health and safety concerns immediately
• Liaise with laboratory personnel to ensure prompt and accurate sample processing
• Schedule phlebotomy staff to ensure continuous service availability
• Respond promptly to urgent sample collection requests
• Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and work towards improving them
