Skills

  • Adopt a professional approach with all patients, staff, and visitors
  • Work within the level of experience and competence
  • Highlight verbally and in writing all orders given by consultants and their team members
  • Provide medical cover, routine and emergency, during hours of duty
  • Work in conjunction with other MOs to provide a 24-hour service
  • Evaluate admitted patients by taking complete history and performing pertinent physical examination
  • Document all patient information in the HMIS
  • Undertake morning, evening, and night ward rounds daily
  • Record patient progress and events in the HMIS system
  • Seek advice from senior team members regarding patient health
  • Receive a handover report on patients from the alternative RMO/SMO
  • Attend ward areas preferably within an hour when commencing duty
  • Provide pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care
  • Manage laboring patients and perform vaginal deliveries including vacuum deliveries
  • Assess and manage patients in the ER
  • Undertake certain medical procedures advised by the Consultant
  • Liaise with nursing staff regularly to check on patient progress
  • See patients at the request of nurses in charge and carry out examinations
  • Discuss medication on discharge with patients and write a discharge summary
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient medical information
  • Provide urgent medical attention and treatment to staff or visitors in case of accident or sudden illness
  • Remain on the hospital premises whilst on duty
  • Ensure continuous cover in the absence of an RMO/SMO
  • Comply with all hospital policies and procedures, particularly Health and Safety at Work
  • Maintain effective interpersonal relationships with staff, patients, and families

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive medical care to patients in the Accident & Emergency department
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, including history taking and physical examinations
  • Document patient encounters accurately and efficiently in the HMIS
  • Manage routine and emergency medical situations effectively
  • Collaborate with consultants, senior medical staff, and nursing teams
  • Perform medical procedures within the scope of practice and competence
  • Ensure continuity of patient care through effective handover and communication
  • Provide care for admitted patients, including pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative management
  • Manage labor and delivery cases as per competency level
  • Handle emergency room patient assessments and management
  • Liaise with nursing staff for patient monitoring and care
  • Prepare discharge summaries and educate patients on post-discharge care
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality
  • Respond to medical emergencies involving staff or visitors
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety regulations
  • Foster positive and professional relationships with colleagues and patients
