Duties and Responsibilities:

• Adopt a professional approach with all patients, staff, and visitors
• Work within the defined scope of experience and competence, communicating consultant orders effectively
• Provide routine and emergency medical cover during duty hours, ensuring a 24-hour service
• Evaluate admitted patients by taking complete history and performing physical examinations, documenting findings in HMIS
• Conduct daily ward rounds, ideally with nursing staff, to visit patients appropriately
• Record patient progress and events accurately in the HMIS system following ward rounds or examinations
• Seek guidance from senior team members for patient health concerns
• Receive handover reports from alternative RMO/SMO and attend ward areas promptly at the start of duty shifts
• Provide pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care for admitted patients
• Manage laboring patients and perform vaginal deliveries, including vacuum deliveries, according to residency/competency and supervision
• Assess and manage patients in the ER, consulting SMO for complicated antenatal cases before admission/discharge decisions
• Undertake specific medical procedures as advised by the Consultant, within the level of experience and competence
• Regularly communicate with nursing staff regarding patient progress, especially for deteriorating conditions
• Discuss discharge medications with patients and write comprehensive discharge summaries
• Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient medical information
• Provide urgent medical attention and treatment to staff or visitors in case of accidents or sudden illness
• Remain on hospital premises during duty hours, ensuring continuous cover if replacements are absent
• Comply with all hospital policies and procedures, particularly those related to Health and Safety at Work
• Maintain effective interpersonal relationships with staff, patients, and their families
