Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adopt a professional approach with all patients, staff, and visitors
  • Work within your defined scope of experience and competence, communicating all consultant orders written and verbally
  • Provide medical cover, both routine and emergency, during all duty hours
  • Collaborate with other Medical Officers to ensure a 24-hour service
  • Evaluate admitted patients by taking a comprehensive history and performing examinations
  • Document all findings and observations accurately in the HMIS system
  • Conduct daily morning, evening, and night ward rounds, ideally with nursing staff
  • Record patient progress and any significant events in the HMIS following ward rounds or examinations
  • Seek guidance from senior team members on patient health matters
  • Receive handover reports from alternative RMOs/SMOs and attend ward areas promptly
  • Provide comprehensive care for admitted patients, including pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases
  • Manage laboring patients and perform vaginal deliveries, including vacuum deliveries, as per competency
  • Assess and manage patients in the Emergency Room
  • Ensure all complicated antenatal patients are assessed by SMO and endorsed by the specialist on call
  • Perform specific medical procedures as advised by the Consultant within your experience level
  • Maintain regular communication with nursing staff regarding patient progress
  • See patients at the request of nurses in charge and conduct necessary examinations
  • Discuss discharge medication with patients and write discharge summaries
  • Respect the confidentiality of all patient medical information
  • Provide urgent medical attention and treatment to staff or visitors in case of accidents
  • Remain on hospital premises while on duty and ensure continuous cover until a replacement is found
  • Comply with all hospital policies and procedures, especially those related to Health and Safety at Work
  • Maintain effective interpersonal relationships with staff, patients, and families
