• Provide medical cover, routine and emergency, during duty hours
• Work collaboratively to ensure 24-hour hospital service
• Evaluate admitted patients by taking complete history and performing physical examinations
• Document patient assessments and progress in the HMIS
• Undertake morning, evening, and night ward rounds daily
• Record patient progress and events in the HMIS system
• Seek advice from senior team members regarding patient health
• Receive and provide handover reports on patients
• Attend ward areas promptly at the start of duty shifts
• Provide pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care
• Manage laboring patients and perform vaginal deliveries
• Assess and manage patients in the Emergency Room
• Liaise with nursing staff regularly regarding patient progress
• See patients at the request of nurses in charge
• Discuss medication on discharge with patients
• Write discharge summaries
• Maintain patient medical information confidentiality
• Provide urgent medical attention in case of accidents or sudden illness
• Remain on hospital premises whilst on duty
• Ensure continuous cover in the absence of other RMO/SMO
• Comply with all hospital policies and procedures, particularly Health and Safety
• Maintain effective interpersonal relationships with staff, patients, and families

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive medical care to patients in the General Surgery department
• Conduct thorough patient assessments, including history taking and physical examinations
• Document all patient interactions, progress, and treatments accurately in the HMIS
• Participate in ward rounds and ensure timely patient reviews
• Manage routine and emergency medical situations effectively
• Collaborate with consultants and senior medical staff for patient management
• Perform medical procedures within the defined scope of practice and competence
• Provide care for patients undergoing surgical procedures, including pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases
• Manage emergency room cases and provide initial assessment and treatment
• Ensure smooth handover of patient care between shifts
• Communicate effectively with nursing staff and other healthcare professionals
• Educate patients on their treatment plans and discharge instructions
• Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient information
• Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
• Contribute to a positive and professional working environment
