Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ensures patient safety by always keeping side rails up and beds locked
• Ensures ID bands are applied to all patients
• Prevents nosocomial infections by frequent hand washing and following infection control policies
• Assures isolation principles are understood and carried out timely
• Provides safe and prevents patient from injury or falls
• Adheres to safety and infection control standards in patient care
• Maintains a clean and orderly patient unit environment
• Performs bed-making for new patients, as soon as patients are discharged or linen gets soiled
• Provides orientation to the unit's surroundings to all newly admitted patients
• Ensures height and weight of new patients
• Collects and records information on patient status, measures and records vital signs of stable patients, and performs simple neuro checks
• Obtains information from physicians, caregivers, and nurses about patient conditions, treatment plans, and suggested activities
• Performs patients’ blood sugar tests with a glucometer (following certification), records them on the patient’s file, and reports findings
• Provides hygiene care to assigned patients, according to unit protocols, e.g., bath, back care, nail care, mouth care, hair care, and perineal care, shaving for male patients
• Assists patients in food and fluid intakes if required
• Empties and measures urinary bags as directed by RN/ RM/LPN/assigned staff, notifies significant changes in output to the nurse and physician
• Measures and records food and liquid intake and urinary and fecal output, and reports those changes
• Changes patient positions as per the routine protocol
• Assists patients with passive range of motion exercises or postural drainage as instructed by the RN/RM/LPN/assigned staff
• Assists in safe transfer of patients
• Helps in shifting patients
• Assists RN, RM, LPN, Tech CCT's and physicians with procedures
• Discontinues patient IV cannulas, if ordered
• Prepares CVP/Lumbar puncture/Pacing and Intubation trolleys
• Cleans incubators and warmers daily
• Prepares incubator (as applicable) and operates equipment according to procedure
• Checks and maintains equipment in working order
• Maintains confidentiality
• Communicates unusual events or observes suspicious acts/incidents to the shift Incharge, immediately
• Maintains good working relationships with peers and health team
• Performs any other related task assigned by the In-charge nurse
